Storing Maple Syrup

storingmaple.jpgWe consider glass to be the best container for long-term storage.  Our eleglant glass containers preserve the color and flavor longer than many other materials.  Glass was one of the earliest materials used by European settlers and still going strong today!

Although metal containers look nice, it has been our experience that the metal containers tend to darken and change the flavor of maple syrup over time.  Early tin containers were manufactured with lead solder, which can be harmful when ingested.

Plastic containers are commonly used today for storage.  Our Traditional Jugs are an excellent container for the refrigerator, freezer or microwave. Unopened containers of Christies' Maple Farm syrup are all vacuum-sealed and will last for months in your cupboard.  Once you open the seal, store your syrup in the refrigerator or freezer to retain that fresh from the evaporator flavor!

HINT: Should your maple syrup begin to crystallize, simply heat it on the stove or microwave and pour into a pan.  Bring to boiling and pour back into original container.  If a harmless mold should form on the top of your syrup, pour the syrup into a pan and bring it to a boil.  Strain the syrup through a filter or cheesecloth and back into its original container.
